Welcome to the NW GLRS BlogSpot!

Welcome to the NW GLRS BlogSpot! This is the place where educators in Northwest Georgia learn to increase teaching and learning of students with disabilities by collaborating and planning with other educators, teaching the standards, and learning how to successfully integrate research-based instructional practices into their classrooms by knowing when and how to differentiate instruction using “appropriate” Web 2.0 21st Century Teaching Tools to meet the diverse needs of our students with disabilities so they will have a successful school experience.

If you are a member of one of the NW GLRS Academies, please locate the page with the name of your academy and cohort listed down the side and leave your blog responses on the appropriate page. 1. Hello all....I am Charlsie Johnston, Dr. Holifield's Administrative Assistant. Please don't think that you are the only ones she is "baptizing" in the BLOG pool....it includes me as well so I'm learning right along with the rest of you! I have read the comments posted thus far and I'm pleased that you're using this brand new tool. I know how excited Dr. Holifield is about integrating it into the NW GLRS instructional academies and I also know how many long hours she had dedicated to developing everything for you. She has driven me nuts at times with her excitement hahahahaha....but has managed to convince me that all this technology is good for you and your students. Please hang in there with our office....this is definitely a "work in progress" and this is the first time it's being used, so there's bound to be some glitches which will provide us with another learning experience! Good Luck....I look forward to honing my technical skills with everyone.

  2. I have never blogged before. I am behind on doing most of my assignments for co-teaching. I had a death in the family and got way behind on everything. I hope I am doing all of this correctly. Internet came into existence when I was in college, and quite frankly I am behind on some things of the information age. I'm looking forward to new challenges, and like many students "terrified"

  7. My name is Susanne Honeycutt. I teach 2nd grade at Stone Creek Elementary School. I am new to co-teaching inclusion, but I am loving it so far. We are really working on incorporating more technology to help motivate the students. We are in the process of receiving more technology which will help. Right now, we are using a smartboard and computers. We are getting an ELMO and an IPAD. I hope to learn from other teacher's idea too.

  12. Wow! This has been a rough start to this journey of knowledge. The wikis and blogs have been difficult for me, and without the help of my team I would be drowning
I teach 5th grade SPED at Naomi Elementary. This is my second year to work with Laura Smalley, and my first year of inclusion with Autumn Hentz. What a great team! If I could have dreamed up a teaching position and made it real, this is exactly the job that I would want.
I hope we get to work together in years to come. I have seen such improvement in my SPED students. Their confidence level continues to soar as they find their way into the regular education setting. We use technology a lot and our students love it. I am so blessed to be in this situation.

  14. Jeff and I work well together but find it difficult to plan lessons that involve co-teaching due to restrictive scheduling with the rest of the school. He is scheduled to be in my class half time and in an economics class half time. Any time there is a test he has to go to the resource room with his students in order to meet their accommodations. The econ teacher gives tests and quizzes often and sometime they are unannounced. Oftentimes, some of her students are absent do he has to give the make-up during class time also. Among my other duties and collaborative planning it is difficult for me to keep up with her testing schedule. So, I do not specifically plan for Jeff to be present. When he is, it is great! One of us may lead whole group discussion while the other illustrates points or chimes in with a relatable example. Other times, during individual or small group work periods we may move some students to a smaller environment with Jeff or we both move about he room remediating struggling students and challenging gifted students. Overall, I believe the co-teaching model in my department would be much more effective if one special education teacher was assigned to one class each period.
